The power in almost sacred oxen’
Madagascar. Zebus is surrounded with traditional rituals and mythical stories which vary by tribe. The holders and shepherd tell me especially that the number of zebus tell about your wealthy.
A sapphire rush in the late 1990s turned the small hamlet of Ilakaka into a deplorable place.
As people from all over Madagascar flocked here in search of sapphires. Ilakaka became the sapphire capital of the world. But this economic boom, does not benefit to new citizens. Ilakaka never developed further than a miserably town where miners families dwell in hovels.

I saw the universal of pleasure. There were boys around ordinary bicycles, chaps who earn their living with the bicycle taxi. Strong guys, who persisted for a long time against the riders on racing bikes.
WAITING & WATCHING
No sport is as accessible as cycling.The peloton crosses public life. A report about the experience from the audience; ‘together we are waiting for the moment!’ Spectators with a cycling heart, loyal and persevering. They are patient and passionately await. The wait is part of the attending and raises the exciting, for the moment that the peloton will pass in almost few seconds.
My father took me as child to the Tour de France after this day, the love for cyclism has never passed. I’m a cyclist myrself. Cycling is one of my favourite subjects. I capture moments in cycling not necessarily the unique instant when the victor realises they have won, but, above all, the times when the finishing line is still a long way off, or when everyone else has gone home. That is the essence of the real story.
HUMAN IN HABITAT
A single moment in a dynamic situation. It shows an interaction between time, people and environment: human scale in public spaces. Ordinary situations become surrealistic reflections.
JOINING A CLUB
Numbers: Tonight it’s competing at the club. Just like every Monday,Tuesday Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon. And on the other evenings there is training. The youngest start at the parking spot: cycling, braking, steering, slalom. As soon as they have mastered their bike, they go to the club-track, because that’s where it happens! There they become cyclists. With numbers. And dreams.
